Selecting your surface

Whether you’re working with a kitchen designer, contractor or you’re a do-it-yourselfer, one of the first steps in choosing a natural stone or quartz product begins with selecting which material to work with. You will find our webpage Stone vs. Quartz helpful in understanding the benefits of both materials. At our Showroom, you will find a variety of displays including large samples of each surface to help you with your final selection. Our design professionals will help guide your through the multitude of options available to you, including edge profiles, back splashes, sinks, and fixtures.

Estimate

Once you have chosen your new surface, we will provide an estimate based on measurements you or your contractor/kitchen dealer has shared with us along with your stone selection(s).

Stone slab yard

Visiting the Slab Yard

The new Rumford Stone Design Center features the region’s largest slab yard with an endless selection of full-size granite, quartz and porcelain slabs. While quartz is man-made with a very consistent pattern, every piece of natural stone is truly unique. Visiting the slab yard allows you to browse an array of slabs until you find the perfect one. You will also find a large selection of smaller remnant pieces, ideal for smaller projects, like a bathroom vanity top.

Stone Inspection and Approval

Once your estimate is formally approved, our customer service team will contact you to schedule out your project and order the material if it is not already on hand. Your stone will be available for inspection at our warehouse where you’ll have the opportunity to view the material and ask questions about how the stone will be laid out for your project. If you’d like, we can arrange to perform a Slabsmith® digital layout of your project so that you can envision how the final project will look when completed.

Templating / Job Measurements

Once your new cabinets are installed or you have removed your old counter and the existing cabinets are ready for us to take measurements (template), we will schedule an appointment to meet you at your home. The template appointment is the most important step in the process. We use state of the art templating software to ensure your countertop is fabricated to the precise specifications of your cabinets. Your presence and feedback is also required to ensure the installation meets your expectations. At this point, we will also ask you about your sink, faucet, and appliance information and may leave you with a list of action-items to complete before we can proceed to the next step.

Fabrication

With templating complete, sink, faucet, appliance selection and any action items verified, we are now ready, we are now ready to begin production on your approved slab. Using state-of-the-art machines for cutting, milling, and polishing, we complete the final fabrication of your new countertop. Learn about our expert countertop fabrication.

Installation

On the day of your installation, our truck will need to get as close as possible to the point of entry for your countertops. We will need clear, unobstructed access to the work area. If noted at template, appliances must be removed and out of the work area to avoid any damage. For safety reasons, pets and small children must be clear of the work area until work is completed.
